Okay, so, I really wanted to get a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph, the one you see in their specialty stores. But man, those prices are insane! So, I started by doing a bit of digging online. Just browsing around, you know, seeing what’s what.
First, I looked into JLC as a brand. I read that they’re famous for their Reverso watches, but they also have this Master Control line. I also found some info about their older models, which are pretty cool. And I even found a discussion online where someone was asking if these watches are limited edition because their local store didn’t have any. It’s crazy! I’m not alone who has difficulty getting one of these babies.
Then, I dove into the whole world of serial numbers and production years. Apparently, real JLCs have these, and it helps figure out how old they are. I was just trying to educate myself, you know, in case I ever come across a pre-owned one. I stumbled upon an article warning about fake pre-owned JLC watches, which was an eye-opener. They had some tips on how to avoid getting scammed when shopping online. Pretty useful stuff.
Now, here’s where things got interesting. I started looking into imitation watches, not gonna lie. I found this article about a fake JLC Duomtre Sphrotourbillon, which is a totally different model, but it had some good points on how to spot a fake. There were some deals on imitation JLCs, but I’m not sure. Oh, by the way, I remembered there’s a guy saying he has the standard Master Control Calendar with a brown strap, but he thinks the blue one looks better. I agree that the blue strap is really charming.
- Compared photos: I wanted to see what a real JLC Master Control Date looks like, so I found some pictures online and compared them to photos of the replicas. There were some differences, especially in the small details.
- Read more: I also read that JLC is known for their Reverso models but their Master Control models also have their own highlights. Someone said they had a Master Control Chrono a few years ago with three sub-dials and a date. That’s the one I’m after!
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure so far. I’m still on the fence about what to do. But I learned a lot, and it’s been a fun ride. I’ll keep you guys posted if I make any big decisions!
My current thought
I mean, it is not easy to get a real one. But you know what? I think I am going to have one, no matter it is real or fake, someday I will get the JLC Master Control Chronograph.
