Okay, so today I wanted to share a little project I’ve been messing around with – trying to copy that OMEGA Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 watch. It’s a pretty cool-looking watch, but way out of my price range, so I thought, why not try to make my own version?
I started by looking up as much info as I could about the actual watch. I saw that Omega first launched this watch, the Speedmaster Professional X-33, on March 28, 1998. They did it at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, which is pretty neat. I read that it was a weird-looking watch with some fancy digital stuff. It was based on some older watch from 1986 called the Seamaster Multifunction.
Then I dug into the different types of Speedmaster watches. It looks like the most famous one is the “Moonwatch,” the one that went to the moon. It’s got a classic look with a black dial, and they haven’t changed the design much over the years. I guess that’s what makes it so timeless, you know?
Next, I wanted to figure out how to tell if a Speedmaster is real. Apparently, you gotta find the Reference Number inside the back of the watch case and an eight-digit serial number on the movement. That’s some detective work right there. I also found out that the battery on these things lasts for about 24 months.
Starting My Project
After gathering all this info, I started to look at the actual design of the Skywalker X-33. The website showed a bunch of pictures. I also found out that it’s made of titanium, which is probably why it’s so expensive.
- First, I looked up pictures of the watch from all angles.
- Then, I tried to sketch out the design on paper, just to get a feel for the shape and all the little details.
- I realized pretty quickly that this wasn’t going to be easy. There are a lot of small parts and details on this watch!
I spent a lot of time just studying the watch face, the buttons, and the overall shape. I went on some websites and found some new and used ones for sale. Prices were all over the place, but they were still way too expensive for me. That just made me more determined to make my own version, though!
I found a video of the latest version of this watch, the X-33 Skywalker. I watched it a few times to see how all the parts moved and worked together.
There’s some expert auction website. I saw a bunch of different watches being sold there, including some Speedmasters. It was cool to see all the different versions and how much people were willing to pay for them.
Anyway, I’m still working on my copy of the watch. It’s a slow process, but I’m learning a lot along the way. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make an exact replica, but I’m hoping to create something that at least looks like the real thing. I might even add some of my own personal touches to make it unique. It’s all about having fun and being creative, right?
This whole thing has been a pretty cool experience so far. I never thought I’d be trying to copy a fancy watch, but it’s been a fun challenge. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to afford the real OMEGA Speedmaster Skywalker X-33. But until then, I’ll be happy with my homemade version.
